The cradle of humanity — bigger than you think

📖 Learn

🏜️

North Africa

Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt — Arab culture, Sahara Desert, Mediterranean coast. Egypt has the Pyramids (4,500 years old!). Morocco is just 14 km from Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar.

🎵

West Africa

Nigeria (224M people — Africa's most populous!), Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire. The music and food capital of Africa. Jollof rice debates between Nigeria and Ghana are SERIOUS business.

🦁

East Africa

Kenya and Tanzania have the world's greatest wildlife. Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's tallest peak (5,895m) — and it's a freestanding volcano! Ethiopia has its own calendar (they're 7 years behind us) and its own alphabet.

🌳

Central Africa

The Congo Basin is the world's second-largest rainforest. DR Congo is massive — the size of Western Europe — and has $24 TRILLION in untapped minerals. Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon.

💎

Southern Africa

South Africa has 11 official languages and 3 capital cities. Botswana went from one of the poorest to one of Africa's richest thanks to diamonds. Victoria Falls (Zambia/Zimbabwe border) is the world's largest waterfall by volume.

🤯

Mind-Blowing Africa Facts

Africa has the youngest population on Earth (median age: 19). Lagos, Nigeria will likely be the world's largest city by 2100. The Sahara Desert is roughly the same size as the United States. Africa produces 70% of the world's cocoa.
