🌎 Lesson 5: The Americas: 35 Countries

From the Arctic to Patagonia

📖 Learn

🗽

North America

Canada (2nd largest country, 38M people spread across a VAST land — 90% live within 100 miles of the US border). USA (world's largest economy, 334M people). Mexico (130M people, ancient Mayan & Aztec civilizations, incredible food).

🌋

Central America

7 small countries between Mexico and South America: Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama. Costa Rica has no army (abolished it in 1948!). The Panama Canal saves ships a 12,000 km detour.

🌴

The Caribbean

Cuba, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Trinidad, and many more island nations. Cuba still has 1950s American cars everywhere. Barbados just became a republic in 2021 (removed the Queen). Haiti was the first Black republic (1804).

🌿

South America

Brazil is larger than all of Europe. The Amazon Rainforest produces 20% of the world's oxygen. The Andes are the longest mountain range (7,000 km). Argentina's Patagonia is one of the least populated places on Earth.

🏜️

Extremes of the Americas

Atacama Desert (Chile) — driest place on Earth, some spots have NEVER recorded rain. Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni — world's largest salt flat, looks like a mirror. Angel Falls (Venezuela) — world's tallest waterfall at 979m.

🤯

Mind-Blowing Americas Facts

Brazil has the most uncontacted tribes on Earth. Canada has 20% of the world's fresh water. El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal currency. Guyana (South America) is the only English-speaking country on the continent. Chile is 4,300 km long but only 175 km wide on average.
